TikTok announced integration with Booking.com, a globally recognized tourism booking platform, and users are now able to view hotel prices, facility details, user evaluations and related short video content directly within the TikTok application and complete reservations. This initiative marked the official launch of TikTok into the United States local life service market, with a focus on tourism at the first stop, aimed at reshaping tourism consumption decision-making paths through a immersion of short video.

The latest feature of TikTok allows users to enter entry and check-out dates in their applications, view specific hotel pages, view prices, facilities, user evaluations and hotel-related short video content. Users can also mark hotels in videos through tags to enhance the interactivity and detectability of content. This integration was achieved through the interface between TikTok and Booking.com ‘ s API, which aims to simplify the consumer journey from inspiration to scheduled completion. According to Business Insider, TikTok is testing this feature, with the first coverage of some United States hotels, with the potential for future expansion to the global market.

In addition, TikTok launched the “TikTok Go” creators’ realization project, which encourages creators with at least 1,000 fans over the age of 18 to earn commissions by promoting hotels or local services. The project is similar to TikTok Shop ‘ s electrician model, but focuses on high-value services such as hotel reservations, and commissions may be less frequent than low-priced commodities, with a higher potential return. TikTok has also added the “Places” label, designed specifically for young users, to help them identify destinations, activities and local services, and to further strengthen its distribution in the field of tourism.
The layout of TikTok in the field of tourism is not the first attempt. Since 2023, TikTok has introduced local living services, including catering, recreation and tourism reservations, in South-East Asian markets (e.g. Indonesia, Thailand) and in 2024 local services GMV (total trade) in South-East Asia accounted for 15 per cent of the total GMV of the platform. The Indonesian market is particularly prominent, with TikTok Shop achieving $42 billion in GMV through integration with Tokopedia, accounting for 14.2 per cent of the electricity market in South-East Asia.

In the United States, 150 million months of active users of TikTok make it an ideal platform for tourism marketing. MGH ‘ s 2023 study showed that 60 per cent of United States TikTok users are interested in new destinations because of the platform content, 35 per cent have booked new destinations for TikTok videos and 32 per cent have booked hotels. The TikTok’s “For You” algorithm has enhanced the discovery of content through individualized recommendations, and integration with Booking.com has further transformed “inspiration” into “action”, shortening the path from content browsing to booking.
TikTok’s integration with Booking.com marks a deep integration of short video with travel reservations, and TikTok’s consumption path will be reshaped through AI recommendations, short video content and creator incentives.
