Instagram comments online editing function: indefinitely modified within 15 minutes of release

Instagram announced a feature to allow users to edit comments already issued. There is, however, a limit to this function, and the comments issued have only a 15-minute modification window. During this time, users are free to make multiple editings.

After editing comments, other users will see the edit mark but will not see the original content, unlike other applications (e.g. iMessage can view the editorial history). It is worth noting that only editorial changes are currently supported. If the original comment contains both text and picture content, the user can modify the text content, but cannot edit the picture.

The update appears to be small, but reflects broader efforts by Instagram to enhance user experience and address long-standing pain spots. Numerous reports over the past few weeks indicate that Instagram has been quietly testing the functionality and that user reactions have been mostly positive. On the same day that the announcement was made, Instagram also shared an update on the specific type of content of the youth account that was restricted according to the classification of films older than 13. This is taking place at a time of growing concern about the impact of Instagram on young users.

Last month, Meta suffered two major legal failures: one in New Mexico State, where the court found the company responsible for endangering the safety of children; and the other in Los Angeles, where the jury ruled that Meta designed its application to make children and adolescents addicted and to undermine their mental health. That’s not all. Thousands of cases remain outstanding, and legal action against the company is currently being taken by the Attorney General of 40 states.
